Responsible IT recycling. Secure data destruction.

SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION

Useful technology.
Lasting value.

We prioritise reuse, recover useful materials and help retired IT create environmental and community value.

Extend equipment life

Keep working technology in use for longer.

Keep resources in circulation

Reuse and responsible recycling reduce waste.

Create local value

Support communities through technology, education and charity.

REUSE FIRST

The most useful next step isn’t always recycling.

Working equipment is assessed for refurbishment and reuse. When reuse is no longer practical, responsible recycling helps recover valuable materials.

Longer useful life

Suitable equipment can continue to be used, reducing the need for new.

Less unnecessary electronic waste

Reuse and responsible recycling help keep valuable materials in circulation.

Better use of existing resources

We maximise the value of equipment through reuse, refurbishment and recycling.

1. Collect securely

IT equipment is collected and delivered safely.

4. Recycle responsibly

Equipment that cannot be reused is directed to responsible recycling.

2. Assess & prepare

Equipment is tested and data is securely managed.

3. Reuse where possible

Working equipment is refurbished and made available for continued use.

WHY REUSE MATTERS

A laptop’s hidden footprint includes water.

Water is used throughout a laptop’s supply chain, including the production of electronic components. Giving suitable equipment a second life can help reduce demand for new manufacturing.

*Illustrative comparison based on a Brunel University study of a generic 5 kg laptop: 191,391 litres per device, compared with a 2.5-million-litre pool. Actual footprints and reuse savings vary. This is not a measured SITR saving.

REUSE IN PRACTICE

42 laptops. A new chapter in education.

SUSTAINABILITY IN THE EVERYDAY DETAILS

Sustainability in the everyday details.

Reuse & refurbishment

Assessing suitable equipment for another useful life.

Materials recovery

Directing end-of-life equipment to responsible recycling.

Reused packaging

Turning existing cardboard into packaging to reduce new material purchases.

TECHNOLOGY WITH PURPOSE

A second life for IT.
More opportunity for people.

Technology donations, education and local charity support connect responsible IT handling with practical community benefit.

Digital refurbishment

Helping people access useful technology.

Education & opportunities

Supporting learning and practical experience.

Local charity support

Working with organisations that support our community.

OUR SUSTAINABILITY ROADMAP

Improving our own environmental performance.

Through Aston University’s Green Advantage programme, we are developing SITR’s own sustainability roadmap.

It helps us understand the impact of our operations and identify practical improvements in transport, resource use, waste and reuse.

1

Understand our impact

Review how we use energy, transport and materials.

2

Set clear priorities

Focus on practical changes across our operations.

3

Track progress

Review actions and identify where more work is needed.

4

Share our journey

Keep customers informed as our roadmap develops.

Our roadmap is an ongoing programme of improvement.

PRACTICAL SUSTAINABILITY

Old cardboard.
A useful new purpose.

Our cardboard perforator turns used boxes into flexible, lattice-style packing material for protecting equipment during dispatch.

By reusing cardboard we already have, we make better use of existing materials and reduce the need to buy new packaging.

IMPROVING OUR OWN ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE

Moving towards
electric business travel.

We’ve introduced a Tesla electric car for business journeys, helping reduce our reliance on petrol and diesel vehicles and lower the environmental impact of our day-to-day operations.

Lower emissions

An electric vehicle helps reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

Supporting our operations

Used for business travel, helping our team get where they need to be.

Part of a wider commitment

Another practical step in our ongoing commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
